Supplies: Three different sized vases from the Dollar Store or recycled glass jars, dishwasher safe PermEnamel paint in Mediterranean Blue and White (or whatever color you prefer), PermEnamel Surface Conditioner from Michaels Arts and Crafts store, paper towels, paint brush and a mixing bowl.

Directions: 1. Clean the vases with hot, soapy water.2. When they are completely dry, pour some surface conditioner in and cover the inside of the vase. Pour out the excess and let the vase dry.3. Get the exact color you envision by mixing your PermEnamel paints in a mixing bowl, then pour inside the vase.4. Paint the inside of the glass using the paint brush to cover the inside surface.5. Once the vase is painted, lay it on a paper towel to let the thick paint drip off. You will be amazed at how much comes out! The longer it’s upside down, the thinner the coating will be. I liked the thicker look so I only kept it upside down only for a few minutes.6. Turn the vase back over and touch up the drips inside. Every fifteen minutes you can even out the thickness on the bottom of the vase as the paint will start to collect.7. Let these dry over night and in the morning you should have a beautiful decor vase!

Have Fun!

We were able to climb Mt. Shavano which has an elevation of 14,229 ft above sea level. For a middle aged guy from Iowa that seemed ridiculously high. We climbed it on our third day of the trip so I had three days previous to that to try and acclimate to the altitude but it still seemed like I only had one lung and with it I had smoked since I was 13.

Hopefully I can get a few pictures up pretty soon.

I’m also excited because Thursday morning I leave bright and early for a four day backpacking trip in Colorado. That should be exceptionally beautiful as well and hopefully I return safely to write another blog next week!

This week brings along one of the state’s greatest traditions, the annual Iowa vs Iowa State game. As a proud alum of Iowa State University and working in Ames I definitely find myself bleeding cardinal and gold. Every year this game promises to bring out a little friendly ribbing between friends and co-workers as the whole state picks sides for the Saturday afternoon battle. This weekend I will be enjoying the game from the 50yd line compliments of a good friend.

I do however just want to take a second and remind everyone to be intelligent about their partying. Please make sure and avoid the urge to kick or punch holes in the drywall. It really serves no purpose. Also remember to clean up after yourself and avoid littering with beer cans and other misc. garbage. Thank you for your cooperation in maintaing your property to a high level and…

GO STATE

On this Labor Day weekend I will be taking my kids canoeing down the Des Moines river with some friends and their kids. We are planning on spending the night Sunday night out on a sand bar. It should be a lot of fun had by everyone and I’m sure that one of my kids will probably ingest a pound of sand with his hotdogs and pancakes.
