Giant JENGA!

Yesterday at the office we enjoyed the opportunity to build our very own version of Haverkamp Properties Giant Jenga!

Here I am cutting the boards for it.  We next had to sand them and a big thank you needs to go to Mr. Andrew Farley for his work in the sanding department.

Here I am standing next to a picture of the finished project!

Oops, sorry Kristen.  Or in gmail lingo “Aww, snaps”

Look forward to seeing this great game played at future Haverkamp gatherings!

Backpacking in Colorado

I just returned yesterday from four days of backpacking in Colorado.  I haven’t been able to make it out there for two years so it was an awesome experience!  I had a little taste of what is coming in the next couple of months for Iowa.  Rain, cold, and even some snow.  As much as I enjoyed all of the experiences I am quite content to wait and let the snow stay out there for a little while longer.

We were able to climb Mt. Shavano which has an elevation of 14,229 ft above sea level.  For a middle aged guy from Iowa that seemed ridiculously high.  We climbed it on our third day of the trip so I had three days previous to that to try and acclimate to the altitude but it still seemed like I only had one lung and with it I had smoked since I was 13.

Hopefully I can get a few pictures up pretty soon.

Beautiful September Day

What an absolutely beautiful day!  The weather outside is just amazing today and is looking extremely promising for the rest of the week.  I think September and October have to be some of the most beautiful months of the year.

I’m also excited because Thursday morning I leave bright and early for a four day backpacking trip in Colorado.  That should be exceptionally beautiful as well and hopefully I return safely to write another blog next week!

Also, Go State!!!!

Annual “Big Game”

This week brings along one of the state’s greatest traditions, the annual Iowa vs Iowa State game.  As a proud alum of Iowa State University and working in Ames I definitely find myself bleeding cardinal and gold.  Every year this game promises to bring out a little friendly ribbing between friends and co-workers as the whole state picks sides for the Saturday afternoon battle.  This weekend I will be enjoying the game from the 50yd line compliments of a good friend.

I do however just want to take a second and remind everyone to be intelligent about their partying.  Please make sure and avoid the urge to kick or punch holes in the drywall.  It really serves no purpose.  Also remember to clean up after yourself and avoid littering with beer cans and other misc. garbage.  Thank you for your cooperation in maintaing your property to a high level and…

Labor Day Weekend

Just wanted to give a quick reminder that rent is due on the 1st of the month.  We do have a grace period of up to the 4th of the month.  Also next week Monday the office will be closed for Labor Day.

On this Labor Day weekend I will be taking my kids canoeing down the Des Moines river with some friends and their kids.  We are planning on spending the night Sunday night out on a sand bar.  It should be a lot of fun had by everyone and I’m sure that one of my kids will probably ingest a pound of sand with his hotdogs and pancakes.
